National School Lunch Week: October 10-14
Sep 29, 2016
Created by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National #SchoolLunch Week (NSLW) is a weeklong celebration of the school lunch program. School Nutrition Association (SNA) members celebrate in their cafeterias each year with decorations, special menus, events and more.
This year’s theme, “Show Your Spirit,” is about getting excited about the benefits of students consuming wholesome, healthy school lunches including fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains and milk.
NSLW is also a great opportunity for SNA members to engage with parents and students on social media.
Recognizing NSLW in your district or in your cafeteria will help you:
- Increase student participation in your program
- Spread the message to parents that you're serving healthy and tasty lunch at school
- Earn media coverage from local papers, blogs and TV stations
- Connect with teachers and administrators at your school or in your district to spread the word that school meals are healthy
NSLW 2016 is officially scheduled for October 10-14 by an act of Congress. However, if you have a student holiday or teacher work day during that week, you can still celebrate anytime.
