NOTICE OF CCOSA MEMBERSHIP ELECTION

On May 2, 2017, the CCOSA Executive Committee voted to call for an election of the CCOSA membership at the CCOSA Summer Conference on June 8, 2017, to consider two proposed amendments to the CCOSA Constitution.  The election will be held in Oklahoma Ballroom A-E at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center, 2501 Conference Drive, Norman, as part of the General Session scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m.  The purpose of this Notice is to explain the two proposed amendments.

PROPOSED AMENDMENT #1:

Amend Article IV, Section 2 of the CCOSA Constitution as follows:

Membership in the Oklahoma Association of Retired School Administrators (OARSA) is open to persons who have retired from school administration or educational service.  To be eligible to join OARSA, individuals shall have been active members of CCOSA for a minimum of three years prior to retirement.  OARSA members are not eligible to vote, hold office, or participate in the Member Death Benefit / Dues Return Program.  OARSA members joining CCOSA who add life insurance shall be eligible to participate in the Mutual Benevolence Plan.  Additional life insurance shall be made available to OARSA members at an additional fee.

Words with a line through them will be deleted from the Constitution.

RATIONALE FOR AMENDMENT:

Proposed amendment #1 would allow CCOSA to offer OARSA members who add life insurance to their OARSA membership the option of participating in the Mutual Benevolence Plan at the same cost and with the same benefits as active members.

At the election on June 8, you will be asked to vote either:

  • Yes – I am in favor of proposed amendment #1; or
  • No – I am opposed to proposed amendment #1.

PROPOSED AMENDMENT #2:

Amend Article IX, Section 2 of the CCOSA Constitution as follows:

The CCOSA Executive Committee shall call for the election within 30 days of receiving a proper request to amend this Constitution.  When the vote to amend the Constitution is taken at a CCOSA business meeting, Aapproval of any the amendment to this Constitution shall be by majority vote of the membership in attendance at the meeting.  When the vote to amend the Constitution is taken online, approval of the amendment shall be by majority vote of the members who cast votes through the online voting process.  The CCOSA Executive Committee shall call for the election within 30 days of receiving a proper request to amend this Constitution.

RATIONALE FOR AMENDMENT:

The CCOSA Constitution does not specify how to determine whether a vote of the members to amend the Constitution, taken online, passes or fails.  Proposed amendment #2 clarifies this process.

  • Yes – I am in favor of proposed amendment #2; or
  • No – I am opposed to proposed amendment #2.
