2015 Legislative Goals
OAESP supports full funding of state legislated mandates or their elimination.
OAESP seeks a commitment from the Oklahoma legislature to restore state appropriated per-pupil funding to prerecession levels.
OAESP seeks a commitment from the legislature to provide professional development funding which supports ongoing growth opportunities designed to equip administrators in successfully implementing state mandated initiatives.
OAESP advocates for enhanced local control of schools.
OAESP seeks to amend the Reading Sufficiency Act to permanently allow local educators along with parents to decide what is in the best interest of a child in relation to retention.
OAESP seeks an accountability system that is statistically sound; relevant to students, parents and educators; and fully represents the complexity of educating all students. In addition, OAESP supports uniform application of accountability measures and standards to any Oklahoma school receiving financial support from state revenues.
OAESP supports a teacher leader evaluation system (TLE) that ensures each classroom and building is led by an effective educator. OAESP seeks to eliminate the quantitative component from the Oklahoma Teacher Leader Effectiveness Evaluation System.
OAESP requests a health insurance program for state education employees funded at the same level as state agency employees. In addition, the association advocates for full funding of retired educators’ health insurance premiums.
OAESP supports a defined benefit retirement program in combination with the appropriate compensation to recruit and retain educators.
